The Wanaka Interclub Meet was held from 3–4 May at the Wanaka Recreation Centre, attracting a record number of athletes from across Otago and beyond. It was a fantastic two days of short-course racing, featuring both debutant swimmers and seasoned competitors trying out new events.
Making the most of racing at her home pool and continuing her form from the recent National Age Group Championships, Hana Carnie (Wanaka) broke two Otago 13 Years Records, in the 100m Backstroke and 200m Backstroke. Hana was particularly impressive in the 200m event on day one, slashing more than four and a half seconds off the previous mark, set by Erika Fairweather (Neptune), to stop the clock at 2:17.57. She then backed it up with a strong 1:04.03 in the 100m Backstroke. Excellent work, Hana!
Hannah Ker-Fox (Neptune) showcased her versatility across multiple strokes, breaking four Otago 12 Years Records in the 100m and 200m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly, and 100m Individual Medley. Saturday, Hannah set the tone early, breaking three records — lowering the 100m Freestyle and 100m Individual Medley marks (previously held by Hana Carnie) with times of 1:01.09 and 1:10.47, respectively. She also delivered a stellar performance in the 100m Butterfly, stopping the clock at 1:07.28 to lower a 2010 record by over one and a half seconds. On Sunday, Hannah capped off her weekend with another record-breaking swim, posting 2:10.80 in the 200m Freestyle to surpass Erika Fairweather’s longstanding mark. Congratulations, Hannah, on an outstanding weekend!
Wanaka Swimming Club convincingly claimed the Club Points Trophy, while Liam Rees (Kiwi) earned the Male Top FINA Points Trophy, and Hana Carnie (Wanaka) secured the Female Top FINA Points Trophy.
