Weatherston Harvey Claims Gold, Palmer & McFarlane Secure Medals on Day Four

It was another great day in the pool for our Otago athletes at the 2024 New Zealand Age Group Championships, taking home three medals and setting 20 personal best times. Congratulations to all those that raced today. There is just one more day of racing to go, let's give it our all one last time!

Our Otago athletes managed to take home the full set of medals today - a gold, silver, and bronze! Alfie Weatherston Harvey (Kiwi) had a stunner of a swim in the 1500m Freestyle, ripping a new personal best time to take the gold medal and the national title in the Male 16 Years age group. This is Alfie's first national title. William McFarlane (Neptune) also swum a fantastic 1500m Freestyle, knocking nearly 20 seconds off his personal best time to claim silver in the Male 15 Years age group. Luisa Palmer (Wanaka) continued her strong form, taking bronze in the Female 14 Years 50m Butterfly. Congratulations Alfie, William, and Luisa!

There were a number of other epic performances across day four of racing. Here are some of the highlights...

  • Lily McGrath (Neptune) showed her breaststroke prowess, ripping two personal best times in the 100m event across the day of racing to take a whopping three seconds off her entry time
  • Olivia McBride (Kiwi) delivered a personal best time in the 100m Breaststroke, qualifying for her first final at a national championships
  • Liam Rees (Alexandra) managed big personal best times in the 200m Individual Medley and 50m Freestyle, knocking two seconds and half a second off his respective previous best efforts
  • Stella Harper (Wanaka) had another impressive day at her first national championships, ripping two personal best times in the 200m Freestyle to place fifth in the 13 years age group
  • Heidi Winter (Alexandra) executed another doubler personal best time today, this time in the 200m Freestyle
  • Abby McBride (Kiwi) had a strong morning swim in the 200m Freestyle, resetting her personal best time to earn a spot in her first final at a national championships
  • Neo Salomonsson (Kiwi) slashed half a second off his entry time in the 50m Freestyle
  • Noah Brummitt (Kiwi) dipped under the 25 second barrier for the first time, breaking his personal best time twice over the course of the day
