Swimming New Zealand are set to launch the inaugral Coach-TED programme in October, a one-of-a-kind swimming coach education and mentoring programme developed specifically for coaches within New Zealand. World renowned coach and sports educator, Wayne Goldsmith, will be leading the programme and assisting coaches from across Aotearoa in further developing their skills.
Congratulations to Michelle Summers (Swim Dunedin) and Kurt Crosland (Swim Dunedin) on their selection to the first Coach-TED intake. Michelle and Kurt are part of the cohort of 20 coaches, with only one other coach from the South Island selected.
Ashleigh Rankin (Cromwell) and Paulo Brayner (Oamaru) were identified as talented coaches to engage alongside the programme. Ashleigh and Paulo are part of a cohort of 15 additional coaches whom will have the opportunity to engage in some of the development opportunities that the course provides, with the intention that this assists them for inclusion in the second Coach-TED intake in 2024-25. Congratulations to Ashleigh and Paulo on this invaluable opportunity.
Here's what Wayne Goldsmith had to say about the programme...
“I am excited to be working with the swimming coaches of NZ”, said Goldsmith. “I’ve been to NZ many times – about 50 visits over the past 30 years and I always love being here. However – I am looking forward to the Coach-TED programme with more enthusiasm and energy than anything I’ve done previously in New Zealand”.
“What makes this programme special is it’s all about coaches and coaching. It’s a targeted, individualised, personalised learning and development experience designed to help every coach involved realise their coaching and performance potential”.
Swimming Otago were fortunate to host Wayne Goldsmith for a swim camp in 2018 - and his insights and experiences are truly world class. So, we look forward to seeing our Otago coaches further learn and develop from this opportunity.
